Road trips that combine the valley with Kargil and Leh

Why start a Ladakh trip in Srinagar?

Driving in from Srinagar lets your body adjust to altitude gradually: Sonamarg (about 2,700 m), then Kargil, then Leh (about 3,500 m). Flying straight into Leh skips that, so you need a full rest day on arrival.

Before you go

  • Altitude: take the first day in Leh slowly, drink plenty of water and tell us about any heart or breathing conditions before booking.
  • Permits: Nubra, Pangong and some border areas need Inner Line Permits; we arrange them with your ID details.
  • Season: Zojila and the high passes usually open in late spring and close with heavy snow; dates vary each year.
  • Connectivity: only postpaid SIMs from some networks work in Ladakh; tell family you may be out of contact in Nubra and Pangong.

Combine with the valley

Spend three or four nights in Srinagar, Gulmarg or Pahalgam before heading east. Browse our Kashmir tour packages or the Kashmir and Kargil tour package for a shorter taste of Ladakh.
