Doodhpathri means "valley of milk", named, locals say, for the white water of its stream. It's a wide, gently rolling meadow surrounded by pine and fir, and much quieter than Gulmarg.
- About 1.5 hours from Srinagar via Budgam.
- Best from April to October; snow in winter.
- Great for picnics, short walks and pony rides.
- Facilities are basic; carry snacks and water.
Getting there
Doodhpathri is about 42 km from Srinagar via Budgam and Khansahib, roughly 1.5 hours by road. The last stretch climbs through forest. From the parking area, the main meadow is a short walk or pony ride.

What to do

- Walk the meadow along the Shaliganga stream; the water is fast and cold, so keep an eye on children near it.
- Picnic on the grass: this is a place to slow down.
- Pony rides to the upper meadows; agree the price and route first.
- Photography: wildflowers in late spring, golden grass in autumn.
When to go
April to October is best, with green meadows from May. Winter brings snow and very limited facilities; check access before going.

Practical tips

- Facilities are basic: carry water, snacks and a warm layer.
- Mobile coverage can be patchy.
- It's a day trip; most people return to Srinagar for the night.
