Costs not included in the Kashmir tour price
These are the items people forget. Prices change, so treat them as rough ranges and check locally.
Flights or trains
Return flights from Delhi to Srinagar vary widely by season and how early you book. Trains to Jammu, Katra or onwards are cheaper; check IRCTC.
Gulmarg Gondola
Phase 1 and Phase 2 are ticketed separately. Book through the J&K Cable Car Corporation, which publishes current fares.
Local union taxis
In Pahalgam (Betaab, Aru and Chandanwari), at Sonamarg (Zero Point) and in Gulmarg in heavy snow, you must use local union taxis. Fares are fixed by the unions and paid locally, usually per vehicle.
Pony rides and guides
Popular for Baisaran in Pahalgam, Thajiwas Glacier in Sonamarg and parts of Gulmarg. Rates are often posted at the start point; agree the price and the route before you set off.
Lunch, entry tickets and shopping
Lunch at local restaurants is good value. Garden and Tulip Garden entries are small. Budget separately for pashmina, saffron and walnut wood if you plan to shop.

How to bring your Kashmir trip price down
- Travel in the shoulder months. March, late August and November are quieter, and hotels are cheaper than in peak summer or the Christmas and New Year weeks.
- Share a cab. Four people in one vehicle pay much less per head than two.
- Use Srinagar as a base. Fewer hotel changes mean fewer early check-outs and less wasted time.
- Pick breakfast and dinner plans. All our packages include them, so you only buy lunch.
- Book the Gondola online. You avoid agent mark-ups and queues.
Is a package cheaper than booking yourself?
Often, yes. A private cab for a week costs more on a day-by-day basis than as part of a package, and we pay contracted hotel rates. The bigger saving is time: one booking, one contact and one person to call if a road closes.
