Yusmarg is a small, sloping meadow on the edge of the Pir Panjal range, wrapped in pine and fir. It's popular with local families for weekend picnics and still feels quiet on weekdays.
- Yusmarg is about 1.5 hours from Srinagar.
- The pony or walking trail to Nilnag lake is the highlight.
- Visit between April and October.
- Combine it with Doodhpathri on a meadows-focused trip.
Getting there
About 47 km from Srinagar via Budgam and Chrar-i-Sharif, around 1.5 hours. On the way, many visitors stop at the Chrar-i-Sharif shrine, an important Sufi shrine; dress modestly.

Things to do

- Walk to the Doodh Ganga stream, a short descent through forest.
- Ride or walk to Nilnag lake, a small lake in the forest. Agree the pony fare and return time first.
- Picnic in the meadow and enjoy the views of the peaks.
Season
April to October. Spring brings wildflowers, autumn brings golden light. Winter brings snow and very limited services.

Tips
- Carry water and snacks; options are limited.
- Wear proper shoes for the forest trails.
- Pair it with Doodhpathri on consecutive days for a quieter Kashmir trip.
