Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1Arrive in Srinagar, Shikara Ride on Dal Lake
Our driver meets you at Srinagar airport or railway station and takes you to your hotel or houseboat. After you settle in, take a one-hour Shikara ride on Dal Lake past the floating gardens, Char Chinar and the lake's handicraft boats, ideally at sunset. Evening free.

Day 2Srinagar to Sonamarg
Drive to Sonamarg along the Sindh River and check in. Spend the afternoon at Thajiwas Glacier on foot or by pony. Staying overnight means a quiet evening in the valley after the day visitors have gone.

Day 3Sonamarg to Kargil over Zojila
Cross the Zojila pass into Ladakh and drive through Drass, where you can stop at the Kargil War Memorial. Arrive in Kargil by afternoon. Drink plenty of water today: you are now above 2,600 m.

Day 4Kargil to Leh via Lamayuru
A long, spectacular drive past Mulbekh's rock-cut Buddha, the 'moonland' landscape and Lamayuru monastery, then along the Indus to Leh. Rest well on arrival; altitude needs respect.

Day 5Leh: Rest and Local Sightseeing
Keep the morning easy to acclimatise. In the afternoon visit Shanti Stupa, Leh Palace and the market. If you feel well, add Thiksey or Hemis monastery.

Day 6Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La
Drive over Khardung La, one of the highest motorable passes, into Nubra Valley. Visit Diskit monastery and its giant Maitreya Buddha, and the sand dunes of Hunder. Overnight in a camp or guesthouse. An Inner Line Permit is needed; we arrange it.

Day 7Nubra to Pangong Lake
Drive along the Shyok River to Pangong Lake, which changes colour through the day. Evenings are cold, even in summer; keep warm layers handy. Overnight in a camp or cottage by the lake.

Day 8Pangong to Leh via Chang La
Return to Leh over the Chang La pass. Afternoon free for the market and a last look at the city.

Transfer to Leh airport for your flight home.
