Gulmarg changes completely with the seasons: a ski resort in winter, a flower meadow in summer. The best time to visit Gulmarg depends on which one you want.
- December to March for snow and skiing.
- May to September for green meadows and pleasant days.
- April and October–November are quieter shoulder months.
- Gondola Phase 2 closes in strong wind in any season.
Snow season: December to March
Thick snow, skiing, sledges and the Gondola above white slopes. January and February are the most reliable months for skiing. Nights are very cold and roads can close after heavy snowfall. Book 5-star and 4-star rooms early for Christmas, New Year and February.
Spring: April
Snow melts on the meadow but lingers higher up. Quieter and cheaper than winter, and you can still find snow at Apharwat.
Green season: May to September
Wide green meadows, wildflowers, pony rides and walks to Strawberry Valley and Drung waterfall. The Gondola is popular; book ahead. Pleasant days, cool evenings.
Autumn: October to November
Clear skies, golden light and fewer visitors. Cold nights; first snow may arrive in November.
