Gulmarg Gondola Guide: Phase 1, Phase 2, Tickets and Timing

The Gulmarg Gondola is one of the highest cable cars in the world and the main reason many people visit Gulmarg. It runs in two stages from the meadow up the slopes of Apharwat.

Key takeaways
  • Book tickets online in advance through the official site.
  • Phase 2 often closes in strong wind; ride early.
  • Apharwat is very high; skip it with heart or breathing conditions.
  • Carry warm layers even in summer.

Phase 1: Gulmarg to Kongdoori

The first stage rises from Gulmarg to Kongdoori, a bowl of meadows (snowfields in winter) with views back over the valley. It's suitable for almost everyone, including children and elders, and is the part most visitors ride.

Phase 2: Kongdoori to Apharwat

The second stage climbs to close to 4,000 m on Apharwat. In winter it serves serious skiers; in late spring and early summer, snow often lingers at the top. The air is thin and cold: skip it with small children, elders or anyone with heart or breathing problems.
